About this course
The Victoria Golf & Country Resort is set in a coconut estate across a 500 acre plus site. It is located alongside the Victoria lake & resevoir /dam & is dwarfed by the Kandyan mountain range with the Knuckles mountains for a backdrop. The resort has a wide range of accomodation – from chalets to luxurious villas & has a clubhouse with a wide range of amenities to offer.
The highlight is the golf course which is a Donald Steel creation & is a 18 hole, 6946 yard, Par 73 layout, that was built in 1997. It was voted as the Best golf course in 2005 by the Asian Golf monthly magazine – it has a undulating terrain with narrow fairways that hug the contours of the mountains & greens that are often elevated & compact in size. The greens are Tiff Dwarf while the fairways are all Bermuda grass. The golf course has a pro shop where almost everything you need for your game is available (except shoe rentals). They have a few golf carts currently which can be hired.
It is located 130 kms from Colombo & 20 kms from Kandy & can be accessed either by road or by sea plane. The journey by a chartered flight takes 30 mins while by road it is a 3 to 4 hour journey as the road is a busy & narrow 2 laned highway all through.
